Repository agents need boundaries they can prove.

repos.chat is an MIT-licensed open-source project created and operated by Adam Pang. Version 0.3 gives repositories stable YAML identities, verifies capability claims against real paths, maps declared relationships, and stores durable requests and responses in a local workspace mailbox.

The repos.chat protocol does not claim that a manifest file is a continuously running agent. Codex, Claude, CI, or another operator-selected host starts the model, while repos.chat supplies provider-neutral context, message transport, repository locks, acknowledgements, and evidence-bearing completion records.

Version 0.3 includes seven core command groups for verification, status, graphs, canon synchronization, sending mail, reading inboxes, and assembling context. The included Codex host runs one locked request inside one recipient repository and explicitly forbids external communication, deployment, purchases, commits, pushes, and neighboring repository edits.

repos.chat is available for $0 under the MIT license and requires Node.js 18 or newer. The project has no hosted account, remote mailbox, subscription plan, free trial, managed control plane, or warranty; continuous scheduling and authenticated remote relay remain outside the current release.
